Description
This Run-of-River hydropower project is situated on the middle of the Ma River in the Thanh Hoa province, which runs into the East Sea of Viet Nam. The Ma River originates from the highly mountainous terrain in the north of Viet Nam. The river’s water flow develops between two mountains and runs from North West to South East. Utilising the high altitude of the mountains, the water is channelled into a reservoir where the hydropower plant generates electricity that is imported in the state-owned grid.
This project will offset the combustion of thousands of tonnes of fossil fuels, and with Viet Nam needing to import electricity from China to keep up with the growing demands, the project will support greater economic independence and cheaper electricity supply for its people. Some of the other great benefits apart from lowering greenhouse gas emissions, is job creation, the development of infrastructure in a developing country.
